Botanical name: Trigonella foenum-graecum
One of the oldest herbal medicines is fenugreek, which Hippocrates highly valued. It was used to facilitate childbirth and enhance milk flow in ancient Egypt. Recent studies conducted in the West have emphasised its hypoglycemic qualities.
Alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, mucilage, protein, vitamins A, B, and C, and volatile oils are among the nutrients found in fenugreek. The seeds can promote weight gain and assist in the healing process after illness.
Fenugreek appears to increase insulin and decrease the stomach's absorption of sugar. For diabetics, both of these actions result in lowered blood sugar levels. Additionally, fenugreek may raise oestrogen and testosterone levels, which may enhance a person's desire for sex.
